3rd Spot News John D. Simmons ,Charlotte Observer 04/18/03: CFD Capt. Ed Henderson, with engine 12 at Station 12, hands his axe down to other firefighters at the two alarm fire at the Elmhurst Apartments Friday morning. An alarm rang out at 9:55am for a first floor apartment fire at Elmhurst Apartments. Two minutes later a second alarm was sounded and Charlotte firefighters from five engine companies and two ladder trucks responded. According to CFD Capt. Jim Dedmon (CQ) CFD firefighters had the two alarm blaze under control by 10:12 am. The fire affected three apartments, the first floor apartment where the fire originated and two upstairs apartments that were mainly damaged by smoke. The early damage estimate is $100,000. The Red Cross is assisting the four children and eight adults displaced by the fire. |
