“The show is about being honest, and trying to break through the artificialness of most TV,” said Todd Morman, describing the television show “Monkeytime,” which he has produced since 1999. With a simple bed sheet hung behind him, Morman uses his hand puppet to get his message across to viewers, offering them the opportunity to call in and discuss the issues.

“Most talking heads you see on TV are are not monkey puppets,” Morman said.

This week’s topics included hepatitis, teaching yoga in the public schools, and the invasion of Iraq. “It’s basically what strikes my fancy during the week. I try to find things I don’t see on the news” Morman said. The show, based in the Martin Street studios of Community Television in Raleigh, airs live each Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. on Raleigh cable channel 10.
