1st General News Todd Sumlin, Charlotte Observer Third grader, Raven Perry (cq) weeps as she hugs teacher Caryn Long Friday afternoon. Perry was concerned about one of her favorite teachers possibly flying on the space shuttle. She said she would miss her. Caryn Long, science coordinator at Winterfield Elementary, is spending this school year in D.C. on a NASA fellowship for outstanding teachers. The week before the Columbia crash, she turned in her application for the newly-revived teacher in space program. Friday she spoke to Winterfield students about space research and why she still wants to become an astronaut. |
