Tessa Seitter, 10 (left) and her sister Michaela, 8 check on their family's first flock of meat birds maturing in the barn. Their family left Wilmington for rural Pender County, NC five years ago with the goal of raising their five children in an atmosphere of responsibility and self-sufficiency. They now produce much of their own food, homeschool the girls and, with some help from 4-H, are learning the ropes of a pioneer lifestyle.
