3rd Spot News Ken Blevins, Wilmington Star-News Surrounded by the contents of her desk, Trask Middle School secretary Lynda Rutherford fields phone calls from concerned parents Monday morning in the school's vandalized main office. Over the weekend, vandals ransacked the school, destroying the main office and all the adjoining rooms including the principal and nurse's offices. Four classrooms were also damaged as well as the school's media center and cafeteria. New Hanover County sheriff's detectives searched for clues Monday morning as students began arriving and the extensive damage forced the middle school students to be evacuated to nearby Laney High school when it was then decided to cancel classes for the day. School maintenece crews, faculity and others spent the morning sifting through the remains of their desks. |
