Durham and firefighters help extricate James C. Williams, center, from the hanging wreckage of a Cessna 172 single engine plane Sat. noontime that crashed into tall pine trees next to I-85 while trying to land at Lake Ridge Aeropark across the interstate. The pilot, David Jones of Durham,NC was thrown from the plane on impact and landed on the ground while Williams was trapped in the plane, hanging some 20 ft. off the ground approx. 60 ft. from the shoulder of southbound I-85 just south of Falls Lake.Both men were injured and taken to Durham Regional Hospital. The crash rescue caused a mile long backup on I-85 southbound.
